The small, handy, safe and secure tool for the HTC Touch Diamond 2 / O2 XDA Diamond 2 / MDA Compact 5 (V), and also most other HTC devices such as HTC Touch Pro2 from " Kaiser model. All the other Windows Mobile devices from WM 5.0 are likely only the "off" function may not run (but also cause no harm).
I put in the functions particular importance to the security: so a restart is the MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) recommended method. Other tools to use, unfortunately sometimes even obsolete (KernelIO) methods, where it is possible that this may lead to data loss. A guarantee I take but of course not the same.
The functions in detail:
restart: Issues a reboot of the device, what else is possible only through cumbersome inspection of the rear cover.
Off: Turns the unit out completely - use the same internal HTC method, as if the long on / off switch of the device to hold and then shuts down the device.
rest: Switches the device into sleep mode (standby) - used the same HTC internal method, like putting the short on / off switch of the device presses.
Dim: The rear lights are switched off and the unit operated continuously (even with inputs) in this state until it again on "Dimming" is what the state originally produced again (a restart does the rest, too). Useful in order to preserve the battery when the light conditions allow it to work that way.
image: The screen is not only darkened, special off completely. Unlike the rest WLAN, music, Bluetooth, GPS, etc. continue to run however. Also useful if eg you only listen to music while walking or running the unit with navigation system in your pocket and has anyway looks at the display, but only follow the voice instructions. The screen will be switched back on when you press the short on / off switch.
